The Neutral Ground Collective, Inc. uses a community-model approach addressing trauma by leveraging the strengths and resources of the community. This is also a community led model. This approach recognizes that trauma impacts not just the individual but entire communities, and that healing can be more effective when it involves a collective effort and support. Our key elements are: Collective Healing, Empowerment, Holistic Services, Cultural humility, Prevention and Education, Capacity Building, Resilience Building, and Collaborative Partnerships.
Students will assist in group workshops/modules/group somatic therapy. We are hybrid so we do in person and online. Students will help prepare for in person workshops such as getting art supplies in order, gathering materials together to put in boxes, and/or assists with online zoom workshops. We are disaster mental health professionals as well so we are working on online in multiple states supporting first responders/therapists/volunteers periodically throughout the year. We do support groups for flooding, wildfires, hurricanes, earthquakes, and mass shootings. Students will assist in those workshops by helping monitor the zoom room, chat questions, taking notes, seeing if individuals may need extra support outside of the group.
Students will learn about the neurobiology of trauma, stress, and chronic stress. They will learn about the current trauma modalities that we now utilize instead of drug based therapeutic interventions such as EMDR, TCTSY, SE, Creative Art therapies, Somatic Therapy. Students will learn about disaster recovery, management, federal & state agencies, insurance issues, climate migration/relocation, adaptation, cultural humility, the core trauma-sensitive principles in crisis/disaster work.
