Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans Immigration & Refugee Services provides a wide range of social, education, and legal services to refugees and immigrants in the Greater New Orleans area.
Refugee Employment Services Service Learner (in-person)
Meet with clients at local libraries to show them how to sign up for a library card and log into a computer to look for jobs. Assist clients with using Google Translate to copy and paste the information on job descriptions and job application questions into their primary language. Help clients create an email account that can be used for job applications. Reference the client’s Job Application Worksheet that they filled out to see their work and education histories and their references. Assist clients with looking up RTA bus routes to learn how to commute to a work site.
Refugee ESL Service Leaner (virtual)
Assist ESL instructor by joining zoom class; taking student attendance; muting students; orienting students on how to use Zoom features, etc.
Students can increase their cultural humility and gain understanding of the immigrant and refugee experience in the Greater New Orleans area. Service Learners will have an opportunity to practice their language skills and develop intercultural communication skills.
